Welcome to my claustrophobic life.

I’m sitting here in my office, giving myself hell. In philosophy we’re always talking about how people don’t force each other to do things any more, they just make them think they want to do them. This is what’s happening to me.

Just the idea that some narcy button-pusher is reading a list of the sites I’ve visited is making me feel guilty about reading weblogs all morning.

I slept in this morning and now I actually feel worse because of the guilt attached to it.

I feel guilty that I’m going to buy a big, tasty hot lunch instead of making my own prefectly reasonable and inexpensive sandwich.

See? I don’t need anyone to boss me around today because I’m a walking ball of guilt already. This is even worse than the attack of Mondayitis I had on Tuesday. I can’t wait for something to take my mind off things.

  1. Don’t worry about it mate - all our web-traffic is logged at my work too, AND we have a poxy firewall which prevents us from downloading MP3’s or checking mail at yahoo, logging into any MSN sites etc.

If you want to get around some of this, use a web proxy like http://www.guardster.com to mask your internet trail.

I use it to get into my mail (which is a humble webmail account hosted at my own domain - alas the proxy doesn’t work with https so hotmail or yahoo are still out of the question), but don’t bother covering my blogging trail anymore. Which probably means the narky button pushers over in systems have READ my blog by now (and lots of others besides) … but I’m past caring. The latter attitute is one you would probably do well to cultivate too :)

  2. Quite right. I don’t think I’ll let it worry me too much, and the computer doesn’t have a secure login anyway, so it could be anyone on there, couldn’t it?

Might give guardster a checkout just so I can see sum p0rn on Fridaze!

  5. Cream my trousers of course.

Yuk, that was too far even for me.

Hiya James, howzit hangin? You’re quite right - I don’t think casual surfing for procrastination purposes would be a big issue at all.
