Sounday Roundup
Some notes on the past week. a) GOULD’S SUCKS. I don’t know about the records there, for sure, but the books bit is a complete heap of trash. The little place across the road is a goldmine by comparison. Constalk is also good. b) Trolls suck too, but it’s business as usual thanks to some updated blog options. Any nasty commenters will be forced to eat a whole bowl of dick before their comments appear. New commenters will also be moderated, but that’s life.
Now:
Can someone help me with the correct pronunciation of ‘pide’, that Turkish pizza thing that I’m now addicted to? I’m fine when I can just order a ‘Special #6 with hommous’, but someday there won’t be a special number six and I’ll be standing there all like, tounge-twisted and shit. How do you say it?
As for the weekend:
Boring. Sometimes I wish my apartment block would catch fire just so I’d have a reason to get up and do something. And then I would get to meet the neighbours, for what that’s worth.
Hmm… nah
Probably has a downside I can’t see.

If I’m not mistaken, the little place you refer to across from Goulds is run by one of my very best friends - bridesmaid and fellow blogger Nick. Pulp Books. If you’re ever in there on a Saturday afternoon and you see a blonde chick drinking beer and pontificating on any number of useless subjects, it’ll probably be me.
Then you can ask me about Turkish pronunciation. It’s amazing the things I think I know after I’ve had a few beers….

Either it’s peyed or pee-day.
In both cases, always go with the definite hand pointing. To show them what you’re trying to pronounce.
Or go to a place that sells pides that you figure you’re not going to ever return to. Then order from them and ask about the pronunciation.
And when you get back to the regular haunts, it’ll be like you were an expert all along.

Grumpy wee laddie aren’t you?
What did Gould’s do to you? Did you get lost and have to text for help or something? Cornstalk does rock and I’m going bargain hunting tomorrow. Yay, new old books. Why do all these second-hand book places keep closing? They have some truly fantastic shit.

dude, you need a road runner and a while e coyote in your title banner. and some mad acme rocket ice-skate and ice-maker weapon of mass destruction.
actually… there is an interesting thought problem. Mr coyote never used a normal weapon like a gun or something, he always used some crazy shit (ie ice-maker and rocket powered ice-skates). If he ever gave yup on trying to chase the road runner, and instead aimed for world domination by weilding a weapon of mass-destruction of some description, what would that weapon be?
he would have to get the bits from acme, but they wouldn’t just sell a WMD kit for any old terrorist to put together. No, wiley would put together a WMD by using already existing and mildly quirky items. ie a portable ice-maker and rocket-powered ice-skates.
So what would be the nature of his WMD? A series of microwaves turned inside-out powered by a massive mechanical battery and a push-bike exercise machine, which is then tested in middle-America and it pops all the corn crops in 3min:40sec? A sound/earthquake weapon cobbled together from 10,000 subwoofers in such a manner that they can produce the 2-4 Hz of an earthquake, which is then taken to a cruising strip (george st or chappel st) and is drowned out by the fully sick car stereos? Or perhaps it would be a massive frypan full of oil and heated by the sun, that pours the oil into a massive funnel, which then takes it to the bootom of the ocean and creates a tsunami from the resultant underwater steam cloud, which actually cooks up some whales and delivers them to the Japanese?

lol Glen - that’s some funny shit man.
Re: Gould’s - they just don’t have any good books, and if they did you couldn’t find any of them.
Am running with Ethan’s pide suggestions. Seems like no one IRL has any clue.

Pee-de (the de being pronounced like the first syllable of death) *nod*
Pulp Books - across the road from Goulds, ja. Run by Nick, as I mentioned in an earlier comment. It’s definitely better organised … I think ANY bookstore is, even one run by blind Bangladeshi immigrents.
You should persist with Goulds though I reckon … it’s definitely frustrating if you’re going in with a specific book-purchasing AGENDA, but if you simply browse for an hour or two you can come across such gems as “Technobabble” - which traces the linguistic development of the English language in the post-computer age (my last Goulds purchase), or various illustrated medical textbooks …

Ha. Getting out bed is a serious pain in the ass. I always feel guilty for wasting my weekend away in bed.
Comment by Tash — Monday August 22 2005 @ 1:32 pm
I adore my bed, I feel that we need to spend more quality time together. Whyever should one feel guilty about spending time in bed? Spending the day in bed is my favourite way of pissing off breeders :)
You must live somewhere better than me, Mark, I live in dread of seeing my neighbours - hearing them is more than enough.

“I’m fine when I can just order a ‘Special #6 with hommous’”
Of course, you know God doesn’t like hommous!
Comment by James — Monday August 22 2005 @ 8:45 pm
I would lurk until I heard somebody else pronounce it. Or say ‘the Turkish pizza thing with hommous, thanks’.
Comment by T. — Tuesday August 23 2005 @ 5:04 am
DB - that’s it! Thanks.
Tash - yeah, but what else are you going to do?
Nails - they’re kicking the winos out of my block of flats. Have they all moved into yours?
James - DAMMIT, just as I was thinking of coming out as a hommousexual…
T - I’m feeling a bit more confident now. Follow the ‘peedeh’ method and tasty pizzas will be yours.

You had winos? How lucky. Mine are all just dull or, in the case of guitar man, bloody irritating. It’s always a relief to hear someone alse stumble home drunk at ungodly hours. Makes one feel that they must be human after all.

Hey Mark, have you had someone come to your blog, specifically to this post, searching for WMD’s? The person comes from Korea (or that is what both my site trackers tell me). The person then goes to my blog to unleash some pent up homoerotic frustration. I believe he is a member of the US armed forces (going by his language and that he is in Korea).

This is so funny. Why do you care so much about this, Glen?
