Tute on, son. Tute on!

Summer school tutorials start tomorrow. Eighty wide-eyed (or, more likely, recalcitrant) young types to fill with semi-relevant (yeah, not at all relevant) knowledge for 12 mostly consecutive frickin’ days. I at least vaguely know what I’m supposed to be doing now. That’s cool. And the lecturers are good value. This university - I won’t say the name but you can probably guess which one - is a funny place… everyone’s a bit overworked and things aren’t as organised as I’m used to, but at the same everyone’s a lot more relaxed. They don’t have lunch at their desks like in Sydney. Must be the WA effect. Or the no-hope bottom-rung university effect.

Oh, and did I say that, like, eighty percent of these students are women? a) wtf? b) dammit I hate sexy tutorials…

My memory of WA is that no one works after 2pm (due to the time difference with te Eastern States) and especially on Fridays!

  2. Heh, that makes a good kind of sense. We have too much productivity over here anyway. It means people have too many airconditioners and housing is inaffordable, so I think it can go.

  3. I have trouble working after 2pm, but it’s because after I have my lunch, I need a siesta. Too sleepy to be productive, so I go to work early and leave at 4pm. Hooray for WA!

I had a tutorial where I was crushing on the tutor once. It was superhard to come up with anything worth saying. But lucky for me, I was far too in love with linguistics to find any of my students sexy when I was the tutor. Plus, they were all about 12 years old. But I’m sure that they were all crushing on me like nobody’s business. Especially when I talked about fricatives. Oh, my.

  4. Those fricatives do make a man hot under the collar. I’m surprised you didn’t have stalkers at all.
