Tomorrow is Australia Day and the tv news is talking it up. It’s like a disease.
Here we are on the edge of the world, in the most isolated city on earth. As I understand it, we will have nothing better to do tomorrow than to wait in the 40-degree heat for a dodgy fireworks display by the river, proudly swinging flags that are more tainted than we will ever know. Maybe we will turn on the radio and listen to My Chemical Romance win the Triple J Hottest 100, but we will probably forget to bring the radio. I love this place and how dumb it is.

Hottest 100! Oh my god, I’d forgotten JJJ did that. What time, roughly, do I get to sleep ’til to hear the top ten? And do they delay it all those hours you’re behind?

The top 10 is usually about 5 or 6 pm, I think - check the website. But it’s usually full of crud, so listening to the rest of the show is much more satisfying.
And yes, triple J is delayed over here.

Been quite a while since I listened to the radio. How does it work again..?
In my ipodded cocoon I doubt I’d recognise anything but the top ten and I even have my doubts about those.

Yesterday, I went past your house twice. TWICE. Last weekend, I went past it once. ONCE.
I doubt that next weekend, I will go past your house thrice. THRICE. But we will see.

I saw someone drive past with a massive human-sized inflatable fairy penguin hanging out the back window of their car on Australia Day. This was my highlight.
Number of people walking around Sydney draped in the Australian flag? 35 (that’s when I stopped counting, anyway, during my bus ride from the city to Mosman).
Sleeping in rocked.

Tom - Now that was unexpected. I wonder if a 6/8 song has ever won before?
Lizzy - OOH, STALKER! Sweet. Actually, I should post you this letter but I’m a bit too fucked from all the heat to walk to the post box. Hi anyways.
Mish - Wow, them’s a lot of flags. As it turned out I didn’t get to go down to the river and see the yobs myself. We went to see James Bond instead, and there was airconditioning and the volume was way up and it was excellent.
