OK, tomorrow I’m flyin’ to Sydney. I might not have much internettage for a while, so bear with me. There will be photos.
I hope it doesn’t take too long to find a new place. I know Mish had a pretty crap time finding hers, but honestly I’m much less discriminating. I’m going to look at places in Campbelltown, and maybe also in Cabramatta, Campsie, Canley Vale, Carramar and Canterbury. In fact, I will scour every suburb beginning with C. And also Lakemba. I assume these are some okay places, but if any of them aren’t, please tell me. I don’t know much about suburban Sydney, it’s just that apartments there are pretty cheap and I don’t need to commute much now that my thesis is moving into the final phase. Also, riding a bike in the inner west is a bit suicidal and some nice long backroads would be pretty great for that.
Well, I’m gonna fuss around with domain.com.au until I’m feeling more optimistic or it’s time for tea. Whichever comes first.
See you on the other side :)

Hi Mark, I reckon it would be worth checking out bus and train routes through 131500.com.au for a good idea of where you want to be. James

I think you’ll be ok to find a place, I don’t know if I’d recommend Lakemba though. Best of luck to you.

James - I guess I’ll work it out when I go to look at the places. If I can’t get there, then no bother going.
Ross - thx :)
Mish - Well if you don’t tell me *why* you’re not recommending Lakemba, I’m a bit lost aren’t I? I mean, you might just think it’s a stupid name or something… PS: I looked at Chatswood but it’s way pricey there. No wonder you had a hard time finding a place.

Good luck with the move Mark!

Best of luck in Sydney man. Again, Perth will miss you.

See I don’t know if you’re being serious or not.. so i’ll have to assume you are. Lakemba has a very high crime rate, as does Cabramatta and Canley Vale. I think Cabra and Canley are better than Lakemba, but only just.
Chatswood is ridiculously pricey, not only that but incredibly overpopulated.
Where abouts will you be working/studying while in Sydney?

Good luck with your move and traveling and finding a place and all that. :)

There is a pretty nice bike track around the area of Canley Vale.
In Campbelltown, the people are feral.
Also, for morning commutes to the city, it’s good to start off from Cabramatta and Canley Vale. Earlier you go, say Campbelltown, the better the sleep on the train.

Julia - thanks, it’s going okay so far (fingers crossed) :)

david - thx.
Mish - Okay, I see, and I was being serious. Cabramatta looks pretty harmless ATM but it might still get nasty… Anyhoo, I’ll tell you all about it later - I’ll msg you or something.
Winter - Thanks dude, it’s going okay so far.
Switch - Good idea about sleeping on the train, but they don’t call out the stops in Sydney so I’d worry about overshooting Central on the way in. Not that I’m big on going places in the mornings anyway, being an arts postgrad. (Oh, and the bike track looks kickarse - I can’t wait to get on it.)

Why would you worry about overshooting Central? Don’t most trains either terminate or loop city circle?
Good luck with the house hunting.

Haven’t really overshot waking up at Central for a long time. With the amount of time you ride starting from Cabra, it’s a good chunky nap you find yourself with.

Nails - Maybe you’re right about the trains. I don’t even know…
Switch - Yeah, I can definitely see the advantage in it, especially if no one punches me for snoring.
