HHHHHHHHobart.

OK, this is actually a photo from Sydney, but isn’t it great?

Eight to a room in the hostel :( And they put girls in with us - that’s just rude.
The place was called The Pickled Frog, and it kinda sucked. It was full of dumb Aussies and people who sat around watching the big screen tv all day. The bathrooms were dirty.

It used to be a pub. A very good one, I hear.

University of Tasmania. The ASCP was a sweet conference, and I got to hang out with some cool people from all over Australia. My paper went OK, but I think I will have to crank it up a notch next year.

A local guy had some pictures of philosophers on display. I think this is Descartes. Maybe.
The conference dinner was fun, but I didn’t bring my camera. There was chocolate cake.

Final panel: the future of continental philosophy. The panel featured Fiona Jenkins, who is a great philosopher and dead gorgeous to boot.
Um, and now I’m in WA. We might have the conference here next year, in which case I might end up doing a lot of the legwork for it. Great!

Switch - Nice to hear from you again! Yeah, I’ve been in situations where things actually looked like that, but soft drinks certainly weren’t involved.
Julia - thx honeybunch!

How exactly to you crank a philosophy paper “up a notch”? Musical accompaniment?

Well, there’s a feel that you get from a really good paper. A good writer can make everything seem clear and simple and interesting, even if you don’t notice them doing it. It’s like - you know when you listen to a low-powered stereo playing near the top of it’s power range and it sounds OK, but then you compare it to a high-powered sound system just playing softly and the high-powered system sounds so much better? You want to write like that, so it looks like you’re stating the obvious, not like you’re trying really hard to get your point across.

Descartes looks a lot like Brian May. Rock on, Descartes!

Does Descartes look like Brian May? Or does Brian may look like Descartes?!
