Git out yer banjos because…

Well, no reason really. Any time is a good time for banjo.

On Saturday I’ll be going back to Sydney. But hopefully not for long. My supervisor is taking leave for a semester and will be unreachable until a few weeks before I have to submit, so I’m pretty much moving back permanently. Here is me working out the pros and cons of the situation!

Pro :D
+ I get to see my Perth friends more.
+ I get to start a band.
+ I get a TV and furniture.
+ In the event that I meet a girl who likes me (it could happen!), I won’t be leaving town.

Con :(
- Time to buy a car.
- Housing here is really expensive now.
- I’ll still have to fly back a few times.
- Moving house will mean not having my stuff for up to a month.

Maybe buying a car should be a pro.

  1. Moving back to Sydney or Perth permanently?

  2. Oh yeah, that was somewhat ambiguous. Back to Perth is what I mean. Obviously! Just as fast as I can ;)

  3. Mark - I am reminded of an old Peter Allen song featured in The Boy from Oz.

You used to live in New York City
    Then you moved to L.A.
But you still miss the streets
    Where you used to play

So you hurry on back there
(Even) Leave your pool and your car
Only to find you no longer belong
Fool don’t you know what you are

    etc…

Anyway, hope it all works out.

  4. Wow, and as a goodbye gift James will kick out a few of your teeth.

  5. James - Yeah. I’ll totally miss you! But we should have beers before I leave.

Shelley - Well this Boy From Oz, whoever he is, seems to be gay. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but I never had any secret gay affairs in Sydney so the analogy only goes so far. Perhaps it’s just James relating everything to corny musicals?

  6. Banjos are cool.

  7. We interpreted that very differently. My version had nothing to do with sex. How odd.

  8. Julia - Thanks for the insightful comment! (Have you suddenly gone undercover as a redneck? It ain’t gonna work.)

Shelley - I know what you meant, I just wanted to make a point of not being able to relate to Boy From Oz references.

  9. Dammit! You figured me out.

And we prefer the term neck color challenged. :)

  10. Er, why?

  11. Because I can’t?

  12. Fair enough.

  13. The sojourn in Sydney ends! Any farewell party happening next time you’re down this way?

    Comment by Mish — Sunday February 3 2008 @ 7:13 pm

  14. Hey, now that’s an idea.

    Comment by nailpolishblues — Sunday February 3 2008 @ 10:04 pm

  15. I thought I *was* down this way. I don’t have any party plans, but if you want to have tea or drinks that’d be OK.

  16. Oh yeah, I can’t read. How long are you here for then?

    Comment by Mish — Monday February 4 2008 @ 9:45 pm

  17. Make that two for the not being able to read.

  18. Yeah, not sure. Maybe until the first week of March.

  19. Oh wow that’s not a whole lot of time. You should be throwing a going away party, with invitations and all that stuff. There’s still time!

  20. Yeah. Or I could not do that.

    Comment by Mark — Tuesday February 5 2008 @ 3:42 pm

  21. Arse. I am so much more amusing when everyone else is drunk too and I’m not hung over.

    Comment by nailpolishblues — Tuesday February 5 2008 @ 4:36 pm

  22. Are you really more amusing, or is everyone else more easily amused?

    Comment by Mark — Tuesday February 5 2008 @ 4:46 pm

  23. Dunno. Too drunk to care usually. I talk more than I normally would though.

  24. I want a card that says “You are cordially invited to Mark’s farewell party”, damn you.

    Comment by Mish — Thursday February 7 2008 @ 4:01 pm

  25. Alright, but don’t whine if you’re the only person who shows up ;)
