Ph.D. completion. Now I understand the pain.
It seems like this happens to everyone. The final stages of your Ph.D. are meant to be about as enjoyable as being stabbed repeatedly in the eye with a rusty spork. I think everyone has slightly different problems, but there’s no doubting that nearing the deadline brings out the crazies. For me, it’s the actual writing part of it. Putting together a sentence that makes sense. I know that sounds simple, but I swear it isn’t. I’m not illiterate. Or maybe I am - the other thing is I don’t know whether I completely suck or whether there’s some hope. I show my work to my supervisor and it has the same amount of scribbles on it that it always has (which to my mind implies that it’s actually getting worse) but I must have learned something over the last 3 years. There’s no way to tell.
Long story short, completion sucks. I just wish it was over already.

You know what you need? Beer. Lots of beer.

beer = coping? I don’t buy that. But honestly I am in the mood for foamy goodness. Perhaps on Saturday.

Yeah, homeboy, sounds like you need distraction. Let me know if you’re so bored that all you want to do is screw around with CSSes.

Perhaps on Saturday? Don’t stand me up and don’t let me drink alone. I have had a shitty week and need numerous alcohol units to eradicate the memory.

Reminds me of doing the final exams at uni to get ye olde degree. I was SO happy to be finished with study and I vowed to never do it again. Then a couple of years later I got bored and started studying again and enrolling in more courses. Bets are on now that this will happen to you in a few years time.

Shelley - I’ll be there. It’s cool.
Misha - Well, it’s not that I don’t like the studying (I will admit being a bit bored) but the main thing is that if I want to have a decent career I have to get this bit right, and I’m not sure I can. Scary :(
