Wii?

Ok, I thought I should post something a) fun b) interesting, so:

Folks, yesterday I played Nintendo Wii for the first time. I know, I’ve come along a bit late and everyone’s already tried it, but here’s my opinion anyway. I like it, but I don’t like playing it. What does that mean? Well, on the one hand I think it’s a great idea - the motion-sensitive controllers are really fun, and they make for some interesting games. Wii Sports tennis is especially cool. On the other hand, the whole thing sucks ergonomically. The batteries in the controllers are too heavy which means you get tired really quickly, and the movements you have to do are often repetitive. For example, in Resident Evil you reload by flicking your controller, which pretty much canes after fifteen minutes of intense zombie-shooting. So, while the Wii is a cool idea, I would never actually want one.

OK, I’m gonna go play ye olde PS2 now.

  1. Yeah, I kind of feel the same way about the weight issue, but I lean more toward the “it’s awesome despite that” side of things.

    Super Mario Galaxy.

    There, I said it.

  2. I actually have yet to try the wii. They say that people are getting cases of “wii elbow”, so be careful of that! :P

As for me, I’m still living in the world of xbox and super nintendo here. Lol.

  4. I have had a bit of Wii experience and it does get massively annoying after a while. It seems to vary wildly between ridiculous oversensitivity to total unresponsiveness. Then again, maybe I just suck.

  5. I inhaled NES and swore black and blue that nothing could ever top it, and I still stand by that to this day as far as Nintendo goes. HOWEVER, having played around with the xbox, 360, PS2, PS3, and PSP recently, I have to say PSP wins just for the anti-social angle… hey, when I’m getting to know a game (= crap for a while, just to start because I’m awesome), I don’t need anybody else looking in and seeing that I’m crap.

    Bring back Duck Hunt.

  6. Tom - that’s cool, I’m pretty susceptible to wrist-strain so I can see that other people would be OK with it.

Julia - Yeah, I definitely felt some wii elbow coming on :(

Becky - Behind? So am I. I only bought my PS2 at Christmas after seeing how cool your one was. It was cheap tho. Being behind is cheap.

T - I was feeling a bit of that. The motion sensors and/or software could definitely use some improvement.

Rin - the best thing about the Wii? 2 PLAYER DUCK HUNT.

  7. Thx. I agree, behind=cheap. It is also nice for me because I like to try systems out, and figure out which games I like before I shell out for them. :)
