More of my friends are having babies.

Obviously this brings up many complicated and contradictory emotions that aren’t worth explaining.

  1. Just wait until you go to your school reunion - as I did in 2004 - and realise you have three sets of grandparents amongst your classmates who have yet to turn forty!

  2. Wow. Not just procreation but proliferation… I can actually see that happening.

  3. Try being thirty [well, almost] and female.

One of my facebook ‘friends’ just advertised her 10 year wedding anniversary. Not envious but deeply disturbed.

  4. And, I think, envious. ;)

  5. No, really. She’d be between 28 and 30. Ten years is seriously freaky.

  6. Welcome to being in the minority in your circle(s) of friends. Wait a few more years, then they’ll start asking you when it’ll be “your turn?”.

  7. Shelley - Yeah, I understand. At age 18 I had a terrible girlfriend, and I haven’t really thought about it before but I’m so happy that we aren’t still together today.

Mish - No, I think they’ve written me off as a spinster. One day they might ask me when it’s “my turn” to purchase whitegoods or get a full-time job, but that’s about as high as expectations get.

  8. Ohhhhhh James, you have made me realise I should go to a school reunion. I’ve been dodging them up to now.

Loving being in that minority, Mark. Just you wait until your ‘confirmed’ minority-status friends suddenly ‘fall in lerve’ and start popping babies out after 40, leaving you with the lonely memories of when you used to bitch about your breeder friends. I can tell you, that sucks even more.

  9. Wow, Andrea… that’s some hardcore disenchantment you’ve got going on there. You poor thing! At least James will never have kids ;)

  10. That’s a bit of an assumption Mark :(

  11. I thought you were a confirmed non-breeder. Have you suddenly developed a nesting instinct?

  12. You shouldn’t assume that just because James is gay he doesn’t want to be parents. Being childless (for whatever reason) is a painful thing.

  14. True! But it is funny to imagine him painting bunnyrabbits on the wall in the spare room…
