A Girl And Her Hamster

By A.M. Muffaz

A girl and her hamster
Sit alone in shadowy alcoves
They are in love with each other
As mother and child are in love with each other
They watch nothingness together
She the smell of her fur
Her the touch of the womb
For them life is the moment that
Just passed by.

Oreo cookie smiles
These two listen to things
That no one else recognizes
Because it is too silent for others;
But that does not mean they are mute,
Or deaf to mundane ways
Only sharper in senses.

From today’s edition of The Halls of Power:

And this old chick takes them to her house and she’s all like “Oh, you dudes want some magic powers or something?” And Lu was all like “Hell, yeah, why not, beats a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. And it’s not like we’re doing anything else.” And Danby’s like “Same, dude.” And so, the old chick, she’s got this totally evil grin, hey, and then she goes “Alright. But I’m not going to tell you what your powers are. Coz it’s soo much more fun for me to watch you squirm.” And Lu and Danby were like “Woah, dude, your freaky or something, hey.” And then the old chick, she goes “Alakazam!!” and “Abracadabra!!” and a bunch of arabic or some shit, hey. And then theres this trippy light, and they’re all like, “Woah…” and all. And then the chick cackles, like, full on cackles like a witch and shit. And then, she says, “Okay. So, now, in return, I have a mission for you.” And Danby and Lu are like, totally freakin out here, y’know? And so they just go “uha.” And then she said “So. You guys go find this thing that I want you to find” And she sent them a mental image of it. (OOC: But I can’t think what it is right now.) “So you guys do that, and then I wont kill you.” So Lu and Danby are like, “Right. Okay. We’ll do that then.” And they nicked off.

WHERE BLACK IS THE COLOUR WHERE NONE IS THE NUMBER

Falling victim once again to the Roster of Deceit, I was 20 minutes late for work this afternoon. Luckily, I didn’t miss much. Did you know people drink less during the change of seasons? I thought that was just me, and just water, but it actually happens. Anyway, the new roster arrives on Wednesday and will remain a mystery until then.

Feeling a bit ‘ugh’ recently. Not ‘on’ at all. Need to take a moment to figure that out. As I always say - if you just chill out, things will get better for you.*

*I never say that. But I should.

Cadbury and loving it

Today Barry, Morgan and I had a show at the Swan. The sound was a bit off - people don’t understand that we’re meant to sound crap and try to make us ‘nicer’, which doesn’t work with the arrangements. We played pretty well, though. I also lent my guitar to the dude from 12-inch girth and scored a free light beer :-)

I scored a free light beer and had to wait around for an hour after my friends had left until I was OK to drive. 2 beers, one tipsy kid. That’s tragic.

Current worries:

My (new) job is up in the air because they’ve changed the roster without telling me, to Monday/Tuesday/Thursday. I’m pissed off because next Thursday we’re already booked at the Big Apple, and then I lose Sunday and the ~$170 that brings in. Pain in the bum :( It was such a good job last week.

My earplugs that reduce noise by 15dB might not be strong enough for wearing to rock concerts. Am I to fork out for a pair with 25dB reduction?

Jeez, I’m a worrier. a) Screw it. I can get another job, even one in the shade like a bottle shop job, if I try hard enough. Plus there’s touring to do, and that trip to Queensland I’ve been thinking about (where I live on bread and snake, like my father before me). b) Screw it. I’ll buy some conventional big flouro earplugs for concerts, and if they don’t work, then fine - let me go deaf. I’d wouldn’t really mind that much. Besides, abilties are for losing. This is what my sister doesn’t get: if I can say I lost my hearing doing something completely amazing, then that’s fine. If I risk elevated lead levels by using lead diving weights, and I have a good time diving, then fine. What are those extra years of health in old age worth if I have to miss out on the present to get them?

Well, I guess we’ll see about work tomorrow…

Aaaah.

Breathing a nice, big sigh of relief now. CSS and layout are at acceptable standards, the links are up, and the hamster is 100% cute.

Issues:

A weird php bug tends to happen the first time you open the site. I don’ t know what’s going on here.
The ‘about’ section in empty-ish, and the links are unformatted.
The main page here is too empty, and exceeding 12 words per line on my 600×800 display, so readability is not good :(

Maybe I’ll bring up the font size. Maybe I’ll add archive controls + links to the front page to clutter it up a bit. But right now, I’ll sit back and eat lunch.

PS: got the day off work & a gig at the Swan. Life is good :)

Things can only get better.

Gawd, I’m halfway to getting everything fixed up and I already want to go and change the layout completely. Well, better learn css formatting before that. As you can see, we’re getting close. All the pages are in place, the hamster is beautiful (if a little too big) and the ugly default khakis are on the outer.

Things to do:

Change the text to something nice and sans-serif; make sure posts have max readability and funk.

Load in the ‘about’ stuff.

Structure the archive page with a table.

Make links funkier and more numerous.

Make the hamster smaller so my 800×600 screen isn’t swamped, add ‘.net’ and maybe a phrase that sums up the site.

Redesign comments(?)

Break with the ‘Broken Butterfly’ design idea, as other sites use that name.

Maybe a simple, light background for the whole site? Light purple…

Any other suggestions? Please comment.

LOL

The nav bar now kinda works, but I forgot to put a ‘home’ button on there. Duh.

Having lunch. Will return with a fixed nav bar and a full complement of pages.

*Bing*

I’m slowly getting rid of the Yuk - in fact, the basic template is almost ready to roll, just needs to have the links inserted. Meanwhile, this sucker is going to be hell to edit, especially now that the laptop with Dreamweaver on it has ‘issues’.

Exciting stuff, though :D

Yeah, well.

Well :-)

This is a bit different to what I expected.

My purple hamster will get up here, even though it may involve turning the .php to crap a few times. Believe me - this whole olive thing not my doing. Not at all.

In the meantime, stay tuned to http://stillgotbutterflies.tripod.com/blog

Love yas all.
