:\

it’s raining. I’m glad that nobody else can enjoy being outside if I have to stay inside and do my homework.

Oh, did I tell you I’m moving into this apartment on Carrington street? It’s near, uh, stuff. Good stuff. Like Jumbo Video and Fremantle. And a bus stop. The apartment has more windows than I thought, but if it also has more of other stuff like roaches, bogan neighbours and tinyness, then I won’t be surprised.

In short: it’s raining, so go sit on it.

Heh?

Oh, I gots to write somethin on me blog. Uh…..

I looked at an apartment yesterday. I had 2 bedrooms but not very many windows. It was a bit lame. But cheap. Cheap is good. I suspect, however, that getting any apartment, even a cheap one, will only result in my having to move out when the rent goes up six months later. You hear it said that Perth has a booming economy, and people are supposed to be getting wealthier, but I don’t think that applies to grad students. I seem to be getting poorer. At least relatively speaking.

Gabrielle Everall had to move out of her apartment because the rent went up. I mean, she hated the place. It wasn’t a good writer’s space and it affected her poetry. But where’s she going to go now?

literary? not quite!

I went to a poetry night last night. Not one of the ones with old people, mind you, but one of the ones with crazy kids and hippies. It was called Cottonmouth. You would think that this sort of thing would bring out the attentive and critical poetry fan in me but it just doesn’t. For some reason I can watch a band, pay strict attention and make haughty remarks about how the drums are too busy or the lyrics are boring, but when it comes to poetry I spend most of the time looking at girls and not listening to a word anyone is saying up on the stage. Then, at the end, I tell everyone that the badly written, melodramatic goth poem about suicide and vampires was my favourite.

Next time I will register for open mic poetry and spend the whole night rehearsing my poems and listing the reasons why I’m so much better than everyone else.

……

So after a few days back in Perth I’m thinking of changing my major to ‘Playstation.’ Maybe completing the look with a pair of tracky dacks. I could even use bong water for eau de cologne.

Actually it’s not all bad. I saw the house my mum is building in York and earned some serious brownie points, and hung out with some friends on the weekend. People sometimes ask me whether I come home after spending so much time in Sydney and find that my friends aren’t around any more but I guess I have some pretty boring friends because they’re basically all there doing the same things they normally do.

Another thing people sometimes say to me is, like, I tell them that I study philosophy, which is kind of my job, and then they say “ah, the art of bullshit!” or something like that. And I don’t think that’s fair. I work pretty hard. Obviously not right at the moment, but sometimes. And I mean, you don’t tell a dentist that they are a professional torturer, do you? Not if you can put yourself in their shoes. In fact, as you can no doubt guess, I secretly like it when people say stuff like that because then I can be offended and quite self-righteous. I don’t know why I bring it up. That didn’t happen to me on the weekend. It just kinda bugs me is all.

I am leeeeeeeeeeeeeeeevin tomorrow. No wait, Thursday. To-morrow there will be removalists. I hope everything fits in the boxes I have.

Um, that’s all I have to say.

Oh also today I bought my sister the coolest present for her 21st birthday. It was a gift certificate!

Now that I think about it, I was overestimating how cool the present was.

Sunday March 2 2008

Weekend:

Saturday afternoon - dodging cars on my bike in Cambramatta, getting up to date with Scary Go Round.

Saturday night - dinner with on-line girlfriends Rin and Mish. Arrested Development dvds.

Sunday - sleeping in because of fears about writing thesis. Then sitting down and writing some of the thesis.

Sunday night - downloading Asobi Seksu mp3s and wanting to start a shoegazing band.

Tomorrow - expect repeats of Sunday activities, except with mp3s by The Necks and wanting to start a minimalist band.
